The Connecticut Virtuousi presents a violin recital by Adrian Sylveen with Anastasia Seifetdinova, piano, on Thursday, May 19 at 7:00 pm. The evening’s program includes Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 9 in A major, “Kreutzer”, Schubert’s Fantasie in C major and Szymanowski’s “Aretusa Spring.”
Violinist Adrian Sylveen (Mackiewicz) who performs in the U.S. and in Europe, serves as Artistic Director of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Connecticut Lyric Opera, and the Classical Orchestra of Pila in Poland. An active soloist as well as conductor, he has performed concerts and recitals in Poland, Switzerland, Germany, former Soviet Union, and the United States.
Sponsored by Tunxis Community College, the free concert is part of a series of chamber music concerts that feature Virtuosi faculty members and international artists. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Tunxis is hosting a hands-on comic workshop with alumnus Matt Ryan on Friday, May 6 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Room 6-224. Ryan, a graduate of the Tunxis art program and a comic book business owner, returns to his alma mater to share his skills and experience. The workshop is free and open to the public. A Connecticut Child Identification Program (CTCHIP) event will be held on May 3 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Whit’s Place (cafeteria) located in the Main Administration Building at Tunxis. Sponsored by the Tunxis student Dental Assisting Club and Student Government Association, this event offers families the opportunity to have children’s dental impressions taken as well as cheek swabbing for DNA samples, fingerprinting, brief videotaped interviews and digital photographs.
The Connecticut Freemasons Foundation, Inc. have coordinated with Tunxis to bring these services free of charge to the community.
The Tunxis alumni art exhibition is on display May 2 – May 31 in the Barnes-Franklin Gallery. The opening reception is Monday, May 2 from 5-7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. In celebration of the College’s 40th anniversary, the exhibition showcases the talents of 25 alumni artists.

Earthstock Connecticut, an eco-friendly family event, will be held on Sunday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the courtyard at Tunxis Community College. The event is free and open to the public.
Earthstock Connecticut is a “green” celebration featuring more than 70 eco-minded vendors and exhibitors, food, music and family activities.
Some of the event’s highlights include performances by Boxx of Roxx, The Green Jazz Band, John Mayock and the Homesteaders and drumming circles by Power of the Drum and Garden of Beats.
Vendors will sell items such as designer apparel and handbags, jewelry, crafts, soap, candles, healthy cleaning solutions, and much more. A portion of proceeds from these sales will be donated to the Tunxis Community College Sustainable Energy Fund.
Plenty of family activities are planned including face painting, hula hoop dancing, rides on the Roaming Railroad’s electric engine train.
