Author and Early Childhood Expert to Talk on “Mind in the Making: Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs”

Tunxis will host a talk by author and early childhood expert Ellen Galinsky on her book “Mind in the Making: Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs” (HarperCollins, 2010), on May 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Founders Hall. ESPN Executive to Talk About Communications Careers

Chris LaPlaca, senior vice president of ESPN Corporate Communications, will talk about choosing a corporate communications career path in today’s job market on Tuesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. in Room 6-127. The talk is open to Tunxis students and staff only.
LaPlaca is responsible for ESPN’s worldwide internal, public and media relations strategies, including oversight of consumer, corporate and employee communications for ESPN’s 50 business units. He also oversees the company’s day-to-day working relationship with The Walt Disney Company’s corporate communications and investor relations groups.
ESPN’s communications team has earned many accolades over the years, including PR Week’s “Team of the Year” for large corporations in 2005, and CableFAX Magazine’s “Team of the Year” for 2012.
LaPlaca is active within the industry and the community. He is a member of the NCTA’s Public Affairs Committee, and co-chaired the Association for Cable Communicators’ annual conference in 2013. In 2010, he was a keynote speaker at the PR News annual Media Relations Forum, and presented at the Conference for Corporate Communication at Notre Dame in 2013. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism/mass communication from St. Bonaventure University.

NYC Bus Trip— “La Gringa”

Tunxis students, faculty and the community are invited to attend a non-guided trip to New York City to see “La Gringa,” a play in Spanish, on Sat., May 3, at the Teatro Repertorio Español. Tickets (non-refundable) are $30 each and include the play and round trip bus fare from Tunxis. Free English and Spanish subtitle monitors are available at the theater.
Those attending must purchase tickets in advance and should meet at the bus in the Tunxis parking lot by 7:45 a.m. Passengers will be dropped off at the theater at 138 East 27th Street, and will return on their own to the Teatro Repertorio Español by 2:30 p.m. for the 3 p.m. show. Participants will have free time from 4:40-5:45 p.m., and the bus will depart the theater at 6 p.m. for arrival at Tunxis around 8:30 p.m. Please contact Lisa Celona at 860.773.1604 or for more information. SOLD OUT: Boston Bus Trip

The TCC Student Government Association and Art Club will sponsor a bus trip to Boston on Friday, May 2.
The bus leaves Tunxis at 10 a.m. and will drop off at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Faneuil Hall. The bus will depart from Faneuil Hall at 9 p.m. for the trip back to Tunxis. The trip costs $20 and is open to students, faculty, staff and their guests. Tickets can be purchased in the Student Lounge Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
