At Tunxis Community College, our non-credit workshops are aimed at helping people enhance their professional skills and job performance. We call upon a network of instructors who bring years of real world experience and the latest thinking and best practices to their work. Writing Power: Improve Your Business Communication — September 21 (M), 9 a.m. — 12 p.m.
Learn how to create more powerful written communications. Join writer and communication consultant Chris John Amorosino for a half-day workshop that will cover strategies and tactics to help you write with more clarity, brevity and understanding. Amorosino provides writing and content marketing services for businesses and organizations across Connecticut. Fee: $75
Change Your Career: Change Your Life — September 25 (F); 9a.m. – 12p.m.
Join career counselor Eleta Jones for an interactive workshop that will help you develop the next steps in your career plan. You’ll identify your interests, skills and values, create career ideas and a personalized action plan. Jones, Ph.D., LPC, brings more than 30 years of experience in career planning, retirement, job search strategies, resume writing, interviewing and salary negotiations to her practice. She is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Connecticut. Fee: $45
Diversity and the Workplace — October 2 (F); 9 – 12:30p.m.
This half-day workshop will help managers and staff understand diversity and its role in helping organizations achieve higher levels of individual performance and team collaboration. Deanne Shapiro has more than 35 years of experience in professional development and organizational effectiveness, and has designed and delivered workforce diversity training to thousands of Connecticut state employees and others. Successful Job Strategies — October 5 (M); 6 – 8:30p.m.
Human Resources coach and counselor Helen Sneed will show you how to find job opportunities beyond CareerBuilder and Indeed.com. This workshop also includes a self-assessment exercise, resume review and interviewing skills practice. Fee: $45
Spanish for Emergency Medical and Health Care Professionals — October 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23 (M); 6 – 9PM
This six-week, 18-hour workshop will provide you with essential medical terminology and conversational tools to help you communicate with Spanish-speaking patients and their families. The content curriculum is developed in partnership with Bristol Hospital EMS, llc, and will be taught by a Hartford City firefighter who holds Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification. Fee: $199
Public Speaking for Working Professionals — October 23 (F); 12:30p.m. – 4:00p.m.
Join public relations expert Cheryl Harris Forbes for a workshop on how to become a more compelling speaker. Learn what it takes to calm your nerves, develop your content and communicate your message with confidence. Forbes has more than 20 years experience in public relations, marketing and executive communication coaching. Fee: $75
QuickBooks 2015 – Nov. 30, December 2, 7, 9, 14, 6 – 9 PM
CPE credits available. This QuickBooks training class covers the fundamentals of using QuickBooks 2015 to track finances of a small business. Stuents will learn how to set up a new company, work with lists, set up inventory, process invoices, work with banks accounts, process payments and enter and pay bills.
