Tunxis Community College will offer several non-credit professional development courses in September for working professionals. The following are among a variety of professional development courses this fall for those who want to upgrade their skill sets. “Fundraising Events: Purpose and Profits,” Sept. 17, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., covers revenue-making strategies, how to distinguish between fundraising and public relations events, creating a function that encourages attendees to continue to support your organization beyond the event, and how to truly evaluate an event’s success. Instructor Wendi Fralick helps nonprofits from across Connecticut and the U.S. with fundraising, event planning, and project management. Fee: $85

• “Ready, Aim, Write!” Sept. 20, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Learn how to write clear, concise action-oriented messages for work. Participants will use actual memos, proposals, project reports, white papers, email and other job-related documents in class. Mike Jordan-Reilly will conduct the half-day workshop. He has 30 years of corporate communication and journalism experience. Fee: $85.

• “Public Speaking Deconstructed,” Sept. 27, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., is designed to help participants overcome the challenges of public speaking. Participants will learn how to organize their thoughts, understand audiences and better communicate their ideas in different situations while developing their own unique speaking style. Taught by Tatiana Machado, an accomplished public speaker with more than 15 years of professional marketing, advertising and public relations experience. Fee: $85

• “Sexual Harassment Awareness, Prevention and Response,” Sept. 27, 9-11:30 a.m., fulfills state and federal requirements for sexual harassment training for all supervisors and managers while helping them understand their responsibility in ensuring a mutually respectful workplace. Deanne Shapiro, who has more than 35 years of experience in professional development and organizational effectiveness, will conduct the training. Fee: $50

Tunxis Community College, through its Business and Industry Services unit, provides customized training and consulting services to private, public and not-for-profit organizations in the region.
