International Day of Peace will be observed at Tunxis on Monday, September 22 at 12 p.m. in the Main Lobby of the 100 Administration Building. It is the first in a year-long series of peace-building activities on campus, and will include an address by President Cathryn Addy, Ph.D., a parade by children of the Tunxis Early Childhood Center, a Wish Tree that participants can fill with peace messages, and an open mic for sharing sentiments of peace. For more information, call Maggie Carlin at 860.773.1505 or Rachel Hyland at 255.3787.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. To mark the 30th anniversary of the General Assembly Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace, the theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is the “Right of Peoples to Peace.”

The United Nations “invites all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities during the Day, and to otherwise commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace.”
