Tunxis Community College in Farmington will offer free screenings for disordered eating on February 23, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Administration 100 Building corridor. The event is open to the public.

Participants will have the opportunity to privately discuss their screening results with a counselor. Community resources and information on eating disorders will also be available.

The event occurs during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week February 21-27. Eating disorders are a daily struggle for 10 million females and 1 million males in the United States, according to the National Eating Disorders Association. Four out of 10 people have either personally experienced an eating disorder or know someone who has. Eating disorders often co-occur with other mental illnesses and have the highest mortality rate of any mental health disorder, but early detection can save lives.

If there is inclement weather, please visit the Tunxis website at tunxis.edu for updates since a delay or closing may cancel or postpone the event. Tunxis is located at 271 Scott Swamp Road.
