The public is invited to a professional dance performance at Tunxis Community College on Thursday, April 21, 7-8 p.m., in the 600 Building, Room 6-374. Several members of Dimensional Dance Company will showcase short pieces of classical ballet, neoclassical, and contemporary dance choreographed by the company’s artistic director, Ruth Vesenka Lewis.

Among the pieces performed will be extracts of The Muses based on the Thomas Dewing oil painting “The Days,” housed at the Wadsworth Atheneum. Dewing’s painting was inspired by a poem of the same name by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“We are pleased to share a variety of dance vignettes and history with Tunxis and the community,” said Lewis. Lewis’ choreography includes the contemporary dance piece Wyeth: Looking Beyond for the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art; Peaceable Kingdom for the Hill-Stead Museum; and the contemporary ballet piece M-Theory: Beyond String Theory, based on physics unified theory. She was a professional ballet dancer with American Repertory Ballet (ARB) and went on to be assistant to the artistic director of ARB before becoming Ballet Master for National Ballet of Bermuda.

The event is free. Voluntary donations in cash or check will be accepted in support of this and other arts and cultural events offered by Tunxis to its campus community and the public. The performance will conclude with a Q&A session for the audience with the dancers and director. For a campus map, visit tunxis.edu/map.
