The Honors Computer Science/Mathematics program at Tunxis Community College offers a seamless pathway into Central Connecticut State University’s bachelor of science degree programs in computer science, mathematics for secondary teaching certification, and theoretical math.

“Under the provisions of this transfer articulation agreement, students who meet the requirements can transfer all of their credits and start at Central as juniors,” said Laura Gambino, coordinator of the Computer Information Systems program at Tunxis.

“Students who continue on to pursue their bachelor’s degree can prepare for a number of career paths in high-paying fields including computer programming, network administration, systems analysis, and database administration,” she added.

Tunxis student Krystyna Reyes, of New Britain, plans to work in computer programming after she transfers to Central to get her bachelor’s degree. “It’s an interesting and challenging program,” Reyes said. “I have learned the latest programming languages in my courses at Tunxis, which will provide a great base for learning more advanced languages when I transfer to Central.”

“There is a growing need in the Greater Hartford area for computer information systems professionals,” said Gambino, a fact reflected in Bureau of Labor Statistics projections, which suggest there will be faster than average employment growth and many job opportunities for computer science majors through 2018.

Tunxis has the only two-year computer science/math honors degree program in Connecticut. For more information on the Honors Computer Science/Mathematics program and transfer agreements at Tunxis, contact Laura Gambino at [email protected].
