Tunxis Community College will offer an Emergency Medical Technician Basic Training course and an EMT Re-Certification course in Bristol starting in September.
The EMT Basic standard evening program meets two nights a week and some select Saturdays and will run from September 20 – December 15.
Offered in partnership with Bristol Hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the course consists of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on training and is designed for those who need to complete the requirements to become a certified EMT-Basic. As part of the training, students are required to complete a 10-hour clinical run with Bristol Hospital EMS. Upon successful completion, students qualify to take written and practical exams administered by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Cost for the course is $650, which includes tuition, books, and stethoscope. There are no prerequisites for the course.
An accelerated EMT Re-Certification program will run for a consecutive three-day period on September 17, 18, & 19 for a cost of $275. The 25-hour program is designed to qualify participants with renewable skills to take the EMT Basic Refresher Exam.
