Tunxis Receives Citation During Bristol Anniversary Celebration

L to R: Among those from Tunxis were David England, Ed.D., dean of institutional effectiveness and outreach, Victor Mitchell, director of business and industry services, and Cathryn Addy, Ph.D., president, who displayed the citation with an official statement from Gov. Jodi Rell at the 10th anniversary celebration of Tunxis@Bristol.

Tunxis Community College received a citation on December 16 from the Connecticut General Assembly in recognition of the 10th anniversary of Tunxis@Bristol during a celebration at the College’s Bristol facility.

State Rep. Betty Boukus (D-22) presented Tunxis with the citation, which commended Tunxis@Bristol for its “excellent academics and service to the community.”

“We are proud to be celebrating this 10-year milestone in Bristol, and look forward to providing the community with continued training opportunities for many years to come,” Tunxis President Cathryn Addy, Ph.D., said during the event.

Tunxis@Bristol first opened its doors at 430 North Main Street, Bristol, in December 2000, a result of collaboration among the College, city of Bristol and businesses which has enabled Tunxis to expand educational and training opportunities and serve the community in new ways.

Tunxis Community College is also celebrating 40 years of education in the Farmington Valley and beyond this year. The College’s Farmington campus opened for classes in October 1970, and today offers almost 60 associate’s degrees and certificates, providing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need.
