Tunxis Community College student Andrew J. Fredericksen of Wolcott was one of several students from Connecticut’s colleges and universities honored for outstanding academic achievement on April 14 by the Connecticut General Assembly during College Academic Day at the State Capitol.
Fredericksen was selected by Tunxis Community College based on his academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. A general studies major, Fredericksen is editor of the Tunxis Sun student newspaper and was selected to serve as a legislative intern at the Connecticut General Assembly during spring semester 2010. He hopes to transfer next year to a four-year university and pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science.
Fredericksen received an official citation from the Connecticut General Assembly in recognition of his academic achievement. In addition, he and the students were formally introduced to the State Senate and House of Representatives. College Academic Day, which is held annually, was sponsored by State Representatives Richard Roy (D-Milford), Denise Merrill (D-Mansfield), and Pamela Sawyer (R-Bolton).
From fine arts, health, and technology to liberal arts & sciences programs, Tunxis offers almost 60 associate’s degrees and certificates, providing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need.
