As part of the Legislative Internship Program, Carragher, a general studies major, has been assigned to State Rep. Bob Godfrey (D-110), deputy speaker pro-tempore. McCusker is working for Rep. Jack Hennessy (D-127). The general studies major will soon be sworn in to the United States Air Force Reserve. Teeling, a liberal arts major, is interning with Rep. Henry Genga (D-10), assistant majority leader and vice-chair of the Appropriations Committee. During the internship, the students attend hearings and seminars and conduct research, among other duties. In the process, they study the roles of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of state government, learn about policy making and witness the interactions of political parties, interest groups and the system.

These activities are in conjunction with a Tunxis independent study program overseen by Rafaele Fierro, Ph.D., professor of history. Tunxis students have participated in the Legislative Internship Program since its inception in 1970.

From fine arts, health, and technology to liberal arts & sciences programs, Tunxis offers over 60 associate degrees and certificates, providing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need. The college is located at the junction of Routes 6 and 177 in Farmington.
