Exemption from Placement Testing

SAT or ACT Scores

In lieu of placement testing, students may submit recent SAT or ACT scores for course placement. For minimum scores, refer to the current Tunxis SAT/ACT Policy below.

To submit SAT or ACT scores for Tunxis course placements, students should complete the Application for Exemption from Placement Testing form.  Documentation of SAT or ACT scores and test date must also be submitted (high school transcript, official score report, or unofficial score report printed from test web site).  Test scores should be no more than 2 years old.

Old SAT:  Test was administered before March 2016
New SAT:  Test was administered beginning in March 2016

*MAT 137L: Intermediate Algebra for the Liberal Arts is a credit-level course that serves as a prerequisite for Statistics, Number Systems, and Math for Liberal Arts only. Students who will need other math courses should not take this course.

To apply for exemption, submit the Application for Exemption from Placement Testing form.

Other Exemptions

You may be exempt from taking the placement test if any of the following conditions have been met:

  • You have already taken a placement test at another Connecticut Community College.*
  • You have already completed freshman-level college requirements in English at another college/university and you intend to take higher level English courses at Tunxis.*
  • You have already completed freshman-level college requirements in Math at another college/university and you intend to take higher level Math courses at Tunxis.*
  • You are a senior citizen (age 62 or over) and not enrolled in a degree program at Tunxis.
