Associate in Science Degree

The Engineering Science associate in science degree focuses on building a foundation in the fields of mechanical, industrial, or civil engineering. Graduates will receive a background in mathematics, science and general education courses for transfer into a four-year program. Engineering Science also offers students currently employed in technical positions an opportunity to retrain and upgrade their technical skills. Differences in various areas of specialization in engineering allow students to choose electives with reference to their programs of study. Core courses in Engineering Science may be offered at other CT community colleges in cooperation with Tunxis.

“All of our instructors knew us by name, and were excellent at explaining complex concepts. I also gained the strong foundation in math I needed for engineering and had a smooth transition when I transferred my credits to CCSU as a junior.”

— Arsalan Shamim, manufacturing engineer for GE Aviation, and Tunxis Community College engineering alum

The College of Technology

The Engineering Science associate in science degree is part of the statewide College of Technology (COT) initiative, which provides career pathways for students to earn certificates, associate of science and bachelor of science degrees in engineering and technology disciplines. The COT curriculum prepares students enrolled in engineering science or technology program options at any of the Connecticut community colleges to seamlessly transfer their credits toward a four-year degree at sponsoring Connecticut universities.

Transfer articulation agreements enable Tunxis engineering science program graduates to transfer their credits to accredited engineering programs at the University of Connecticut, Central Connecticut State University, University of Hartford, Fairfield University, and the University of New Haven. Students who have met all admissions criteria receive automatic junior status upon transferring to these universities. The minimum GPA for guaranteed acceptance is 3.0.
