Tunxis Community College’s business program accreditation was recently reaffirmed by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Accreditation by the ACBSP Associate Degree Board of Commissioners certifies that the teaching and learning processes offered through Tunxis business degrees and certificates meet the rigorous educational standards established by the ACBSP. ACBSP is the only organization offering specialized business accreditation for all degree levels, from associate to baccalaureate and doctoral degree programs.

The business administration program at Tunxis was first accredited by ACBSP in 2009, the only associate degree program in Connecticut and one of four in the state to earn the accreditation for its business programs. The college is required to go through the reaffirmation process every 10 years to maintain ACBSP accreditation.

“We are proud that our business administration program has been reaccredited, ensuring ongoing academic excellence for our 500 business administration students,” said Tunxis Dean of Academic Affairs Amy Feest. “Continuing our accreditation affirms that our program meets the highest standards required by ACBSP and opens the doors to many opportunities for our students, such as transfer scholarships and membership into Tunxis’ Kappa Beta Delta honor society.”

“Tunxis has shown its commitment to teaching excellence and to the process of quality improvement by participating in the accreditation process,” said ACBSP Chief Accreditation Officer Dr. Steve Parscale, who will present the Certificate of Reaffirmation of Accreditation at ACBSP Conference 2020 in Chicago, IL on June 28. “This reaffirmation of accreditation is evidence that Tunxis Community College is committed to maintaining the highest quality business education for their students for the next 10 years, just as they have done for the last decade.”

The Tunxis business program represents the largest field of study at Tunxis, helping to prepare students for growing employment opportunities with courses in accounting, management, business law, ethics, finance, economics, entrepreneurship and marketing. The program stresses real-world business practices, leadership, decision-making and technology. During the final year of study, students are able to apply their knowledge in internships with area employers. The college also offers an accelerated online business degree and certificate that enables students to finish their courses in shorter timeframes.

Through guaranteed admissions programs and transfer agreements, Tunxis business students who complete an associate degree can seamlessly transfer their credits to a four-year baccalaureate business program at the Connecticut State Universities, UConn School of Business regional campuses, Charter Oak State College, and many private colleges.
