Tunxis Community College in Farmington is currently accepting applications for two new Advanced Manufacturing Technology programs, developed in response to Connecticut manufacturers’ needs for a highly-skilled workforce.

Students can start courses in August for associate degrees and certificates in Machine Technology and Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technology. Those students who enroll full-time can earn their first credentials in two semesters.

“With 14,000 manufacturing job openings statewide, it’s a great time to learn more about this exciting career path,” said Dr. James Lombella, President of Tunxis and Asnuntuck Community Colleges. “We are working closely with members of the manufacturing sector to meet their workforce needs while offering pathways to our students for careers in advanced manufacturing technology,” he continued. “These are not just jobs, but high-tech careers that will enable students to become self-sustaining, tax-paying citizens in our state and strengthen Connecticut’s economy.”

The college’s Machine Technology programs train students for careers in CNC and positions in machine technologies. Machine Technology program students will spend two days a week learning on manufacturing machinery at Asnuntuck’s 27,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in Enfield until Tunxis facility renovations are completed for the new programs. The Electro-Mechanical programs teach students to repair CNC equipment, how to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, and develop or modify products and create manufacturing systems. All Electro-Mechanical courses will be taught at Tunxis. Both programs include paid internships and job placement services.

Tunxis Advanced Manufacturing Technology Information Sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, July 18 at 6 p.m. at Tunxis Community College, in the 600 Building, Room 6-127; and July 24 at 3 p.m. at Asnuntuck Community College in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, Room 420, with a tour of ACC’s new, 27,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center. During these sessions, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the admissions process, financial aid, and bachelor’s degree transfer options. To register to attend one or both sessions, visit tunxis.edu/mreg.

Offered through the College of Technology led by Tunxis, TCC students enrolled in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology programs can apply college credits earned to four-year degrees at other private and public universities in Connecticut. The College of Technology is a collaboration among Connecticut’s community colleges and partner universities to provide seamless career pathways for students to earn certificates, associate of science and bachelor of science degrees in engineering and technology disciplines with no loss of credit upon transfer, as well as preparing students for the workforce.

Tunxis Community College offers over 60 associate degrees and certificates, including 10 associate degrees with manufacturing, science, engineering and technology emphases. Tunxis is also a recipient of a $2.4 million National Science Foundation grant that established the College of Technology’s Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing, an NSF Center of Excellence, and one of seven National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education Centers in the United States.
