Tunxis Community College hosted “PERSIST: A Comprehensive Guide for Student Success in Higher Education,” a professional development workshop on college student success and retention presented and funded by ECMC Foundation, on Feb. 27.

Over 60 people representing 20 organizations attended the event, including many of the Connecticut Community Colleges and State Universities, UConn, and several area high schools.

Experts in education from institutions across the country presented at the training session, which included interactive exercises that allowed participants to collaborate and assess institutional retention performance, create programs that support academic success, and gain insight into helping students who are concerned about paying for college.

ECMC Foundation’s mission, according to its website, is “to inspire and to facilitate improvements that affect educational outcomes—especially among underserved populations—through evidence-based innovation.”

Located in Farmington, Tunxis offers over 60 associate’s degrees and certificates, providing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need.  For more on Tunxis programs, please call 860.773.1300, or visit the Tunxis website at tunxis.edu.
