Tunxis Community College will hold “Spanish for Emergency Medical and Health Care Professionals,” a six-week, 18-hour Spanish language workshop, on Mondays, Oct. 19-Nov. 23 from 6-9 p.m.

The course will cover conversational tools for communicating with Spanish-speaking patients and their families. Participants will learn and practice the fundamentals of pronunciation, how to ask questions, medical terminology and vocabulary most commonly associated with emergency medical situations. Some of the topics will include trauma and assault, vehicle accidents, cardiac and chest pain, and childbirth. The class also will include discussion of cultural issues that may arise.

Instructor Val Rodriguez, a Hartford City firefighter, holds Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification and trains EMS and medical professionals. A course fee of $199 includes the textbook.

Classes will be held at Tunxis@Bristol, 430 North Main Street, and are offered through a partnership with Tunxis Workforce Development and Continuing Education and Bristol Hospital EMS, LLC, a fully licensed paramedic service.
