Jen-2 webTunxis Community College has announced that Jennifer Wittke, assistant professor of English, is a recipient of the Connecticut Board of Regents Teaching Awards for 2016. Awards are granted to nominees who have distinguished themselves as outstanding faculty through exceptional teaching methods and creative instructional delivery that enhance student learning.

Wittke received the award in April at the Connecticut Board of Regents meeting, in recognition of her outstanding teaching and a track record of promoting instructional improvements for her program.

“We are proud to recognize Jennifer’s contributions to Tunxis and her commitment to innovative teachings practices that advance student success,” said Tunxis President Cathryn L. Addy, Ph.D.

Wittke began teaching at Tunxis as an adjunct instructor in 2007 before joining the college full-time in 2010. She was a leader in revising curriculum for an introductory English course to comply with new college readiness legislation, and in collaborating on learning communities with colleagues. She has also widely shared her innovative classroom practices and use of technology to foster student learning. Wittke has taught a variety of courses at Tunxis including Introduction to College English, English Composition, First Year Experience, and literature.

“I am humbled to be recognized by my colleagues, and am fortunate to be surrounded by others who are committed to our students’ success,” said Wittke, who resides in West Suffield. “There is nothing more gratifying than being a part of a student’s journey from their first semester through graduation.”

Teaching Awards are granted annually by the Board of Regents for Higher Education to faculty from each of the 12 community colleges, four state universities and Charter Oak State College as part of the system of Connecticut State Colleges and Universities.

Located in Farmington, Tunxis offers over 50 associate degrees and certificates, providing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need.
