Tunxis Community College student Alexandria Garry, of Simsbury, was one of 21 students from Connecticut’s colleges and universities honored for outstanding academic achievement this spring by the Connecticut General Assembly during the 15th Annual College Academic Day celebration at the State Capitol.

Gary received an official citation from the Connecticut General Assembly, was formally introduced with the other students during session, and was honored at a State Capitol reception.

Garry, who has a 3.65 GPA, was selected by Tunxis Community College based on her scholastic achievement and extracurricular involvement. She began attending Tunxis when she was just 13 years old, upon finishing home school. Garry is president of the student newspaper Tunxis SUN, and recently received a leadership award from Tunxis for her work on the paper. She is also a member of the Tunxis chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society and Celebration of Womanhood Club. Garry is a social media outreach intern for the Afghan Women’s Writing Project and works part-time in customer service. She also coaches for Connecticut Mirage Fastpitch Softball. Garry will receive her associate in science degree in liberal arts and sciences from Tunxis in June and will attend American University’s School of Communication in the fall.
