Exemption from Placement Testing
SAT, ACT, or GED Scores and Other Exemptions
In lieu of placement testing, students may submit recent SAT, ACT or GED scores for course placement. Be sure to check the Graduation Guides for courses required for your degree or certificate. For minimum scores, refer to the current Tunxis SAT/ACT/GED Policy below. See below for other exemptions. The form to request exemption is at the bottom of this page.
To submit SAT, ACT, or GED scores for Tunxis course placements, students should complete the Application for Exemption from Placement Testing form below. Documentation of test scores and test date must also be submitted (high school transcript, official score report, or unofficial score report printed from test web site). Test scores should be no more than 3 years old.

*MAT 137L: Intermediate Algebra for the Liberal Arts is a credit-level course that serves as a prerequisite for Statistics, Number Systems, and Math for Liberal Arts only. Students who will need other math courses should not take this course.
You may be exempt from taking the placement test if any of the following conditions have been met:
- You have already taken a placement test at another Connecticut Community College.*
- You have already completed freshman-level college requirements in English at another college/university and you intend to take higher level English courses at Tunxis.*
- You have already completed freshman-level college requirements in Math at another college/university and you intend to take higher level Math courses at Tunxis.*
- You are a senior citizen (age 62 or over) and not enrolled in a degree program at Tunxis.
