Learn how to conduct a comprehensive job search based on the winning strategies of today.  Explore how to research opportunities, contact employers, network, and tap into the hidden job market.  The crucial role and crafting of cover letters will be included.

Resume Writing

When: Wednesday, September 26 at 10AM

Learn to build effective resume-writing skills and become more confident.  Whether you’re writing your first resume or updating an existing one, this workshop provides the skills necessary to develop this essential marketing tool.

Create a Resume Using Your iPhone (works with Android!)

When: Wednesday, November 14 at 10AM

Resumes are one of the most powerful tools in the career field, and mobile technology is making it easier for us to create these documents – if you know the right tools to help you.  Discover the free applications available through the App Store and Google Play Store and become a power-professional!

Job Interviewing Skills

Preparation is the key to a successful interview.  This workshop identifies the types of interviews candidates are experiencing today, covers the stages of the interview process, and previews the most frequently asked interview questions.

Using Social Media to Create Your Brand

Social Media is the latest marketing tool many employers are utilizing for their own promotion.  Learn how you can avoid mistakes in your profile and create a successful online presence to enhance your own brand and discover the possibilities to a new career.

Network like a Pro: Using LinkedIn

In today’s technology-heavy world, employers are utilizing new ways to get in contact with potential job seekers.  Learn the secrets to LinkedIn, the largest social media professional networking site and connect with others in your industry.

Tunxis students may take the Strong Interest Inventory free of charge to provide them with additional insight and direction.  Contact the Academic Advising and Counseling Center and provide your name, student ID, and email address.  A link to take the assessment will be emailed.

Once you take the occupation interest assessment, a career specialist will contact you to explain your results.

A Career and Education Planning System for College Students

Tunxis students are encouraged to register in our online employment database, Virtual Job Shadow. To use the database you must have an email address and should also have your resume and cover letter approved at the Career Center prior to uploading them to the site (Please call us at 860.773.1501 or stop by the Academic Advising and Counseling Center so we can help you with this). Employers list new positions on Virtual Job Shadow every day, as well as search the site themselves for potential candidates. Students and Alumni and also view hundred’s of video to explore experiences regarding potential careers, colleges of interest, and create a career plan.  Once you register in this database you will receive email notices about jobs and related events. To register at Virtual Job Shadow, visit the Tunxis logon page.
