The Academic Advising Center (AAC) provides a student-centered environment that helps empower students to reach their academic, personal, and career goals while enrolled at Tunxis Community College.
Our dedicated staff of professionals seek to help Tunxis students with being successful by serving as facilitators and advocates, empowering our students to make informed and responsible decisions that help students clarify and establish meaningful goals, while also helping them build and implement action plans to fulfill their aspirations.
Continuing students seeking more information, or who wish to schedule an appointment, may contact the Academic Advising Center at 860.773.1510.
All new students seeking academic advising should contact the Admissions Office at 860.773.1490.
The AAC offers a full range of academic and personal support services. We work in conjunction with faculty and staff to foster student growth and success by offering the following academic and personal services:
Quality academic advising is an integral part of your academic success and can enhance your educational experience. Through academic advising we seek to promote self-growth, independence, and accomplishment and do so by helping Tunxis students understand their academic major, its requirements, and by guiding students with selecting and registering for courses, as well as plan for upcoming semesters.
Non-degree students are not assigned a faculty advisor and should plan to meet with a AAC staff member to register for courses.
Tunxis students interested in transferring to another institution are encouraged to meet with the Transfer Coordinator to learn about the numerous transfer opportunities that exist. Tunxis has a variety of transfer articulation agreements with both public and private four-year colleges and universities, including the University of Connecticut and the Connecticut State University system (Central, Eastern, Southern, and Western).
Our career services staff provide comprehensive programs, activities, and services that assist students to prepare for finding suitable employment. Through resume writing and interviewing skills workshops, job fairs, and on-campus recruitment opportunities, we help students discover their career aspirations while preparing them for employment in their field of study. In addition to on-campus career-focused events, web based self-assessment tools, such as the MBTI Personality Type Indicator and STRONG Interest Inventory, are also utilized to assist students in finding the fit between their competencies and the world of work.
